Client-Centered Therapy
Client Centred Therapy is referred to as Person Centred Therapy which was originally developed by Carl Rogers. It is also referred to as Rogerian Therapy. It is a non-directive therapy where the client and therapist are working as equals in collaboration, through the concerns. The therapy is based upon the premise that a person is an expert when it comes to their life and experiences. That people have a tendency for self-actualization. Hence, it can help fulfill their need of self-actualization by providing a safe and non-judgmental space. The techniques used towards this therapy are unconditional positive regards, empathy and congruence. This therapy also strongly advocates that the person who comes into therapy is not a patient but a client. The word ‘patient’ has a negative connotation that refers to sickness that the person wants to cure with the help of the therapist but that is certainly not what happens in a therapy. The therapy is helpful in building self-awareness, self-concept and self-esteem.
It can be helpful with various issues:
- Depression, Anxiety, Psychosis, Mood Related Issues, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Negative Thoughts
