Drama Therapy
Drama Therapy is a psycho-therapeutic approach, providing a theatrical space to express emotions, solve issues and achieve goals set under therapy. According to North American Drama Therapy Association, Drama Therapy is an experiential and active path that facilitates change by the use of storytelling, improvisation, performance and play. Participants rehearse the behavior that are desired by them, thereafter they practice that behavior and perform the changes they wish to have in their life, thereby presenting them to the society at large. Drama Therapy must not be confused with acting as Drama Therapy has cathartic and mental health-related elements. It helps provide a safe space to enact scenarios that represent how one wants to live their life and are directed by the therapists through various tasks. It also helps clients with problem-solving skills, personal growth and interpersonal relationships. It has evolved from Psychodrama, a therapeutic approach used by Moreno that included guided drama directed towards addressing the concerns of the clients.
It can be helpful with various issues:
- Anxiety Depression Substance Use Behavioral Problems Eating Disorders Grief & Bereavement
