Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) has been found effective for those who struggle to talk about their past experiences. People are helped in revisiting the painful or triggering life events in a gradual manner while the therapists directs them with some eye movements. It is based upon the premise that it gets a little less triggering talking about your traumatic life events while your attention is being diverted by the therapist and slowly, this helps in decreasing the impact of thoughts and memories that were distressing. It is an amalgamation of Graduated Exposure Therapy with elements of guided movements of the eye that helps the person to work through their trauma and reprocess what they have been through in their past. It has been found to be effective for those with trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
It can be helpful with various issues:
- Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Abuse, Eating Disorders, Addiction
