Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

'Problem talk creates problems, Solution talk creates solutions’ - Steve de Shazer, Co-founder of SFBT Model. Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a psycho therapeutic approach that emphasizes the client’s present circumstances, goals and future rather than past experiences. It was developed by Shazer and Berg in the 1970’s and 1980’s at the Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee. SFBT is based upon the premise that people already know what is supposed to be done to navigate through the issues they are facing currently and the SFBT therapist can help them gain clarity regarding their goals alongside working in collaboration to take steps in the right direction to achieve those goals.

The first step in SFBT is usually helping the client in developing a clear vision of their future and goals. After a clear picture of the future is established, the therapist helps the client to determine their qualities and abilities that can be worked upon to help them attain those goals. The therapist guides the client in the exploration of what all can be done, what works out for them, explore the best way to keep on practicing the strategies that have been working out for them, acknowledge and celebrate their wins.

It can be helpful with various issues:

Depression, Self-esteem, Anxiety, Work-related Stress, Personal Stress, Substance Abuse, Relationship Problems, Mood Related Disorders
