Trauma

Trauma can be understood as a response to an event or situation that was extremely disturbing and overwhelming for a person and it affected their coping ability, decreased their sense of self, self-esteem, etc., and brought up a bunch of emotions for them. The event that causes trauma is often very sudden and feels like a threat to one’s life and well-being.

Trauma can be experienced by a person by any event in their life, it can be an accident they witnessed, loss of a parent, experiencing abuse, working in extreme conditions like being deployed overseas, military combat, assault of any form, grief, etc.
